Claude Code setup for social media managers handling multiple platforms, content calendars, community engagement, and analytics reporting across LinkedIn, Twitter/X, Instagram, and TikTok.
# CLAUDE.md — Social Media Manager
> Version: 2026-02-17 | Difficulty: beginner
## What Your AI Can Now Do
- Draft a week's worth of platform-specific posts in one sitting, each with the right tone and format
- Repurpose a single piece of content into posts for LinkedIn, Twitter/X, Instagram, and Reddit
- Research trending topics and competitor posts before you plan your content calendar
- Pull engagement analytics and spot which content types are actually driving results
- Reply to comments and DMs with on-brand responses you can approve in seconds
---
## Quick Start
1. Paste this file into your project as `CLAUDE.md`
2. Add your social platform credentials and analytics access to `.env`
3. Run `/content-calendar [next week]` to generate your first batch of post drafts
4. Run `/repurpose [url or text]` to see how one idea becomes 4 platform posts
5. Set up the posting schedule automation so drafts land in your review queue on time
---
## About Me
Social media manager running 2-5 brand accounts across LinkedIn, Twitter/X, Instagram, and occasionally Reddit or TikTok. I plan weekly content calendars, write and schedule posts, engage with communities, and report on performance monthly. My goal is growing engaged followers who convert — not vanity metrics.
---
## Pre-Built Commands
| Command | What It Does |
|---------|-------------|
| `/content-calendar [timeframe]` | Generates a week or month of post ideas with platform, format, hook, and CTA for each |
| `/repurpose [content]` | Takes one article, video, or idea and creates platform-specific versions for LinkedIn, Twitter/X, Instagram, and Reddit |
| `/engagement-report [period]` | Pulls top-performing posts, engagement rates, follower growth, and click-throughs for the period |
| `/draft-post [platform] [topic]` | Writes a single post optimized for the platform's format, character limits, and best practices |
| `/competitor-scan [handle]` | Analyzes a competitor's recent posts for themes, posting frequency, engagement patterns, and content gaps |
---
## How Claude Connects to Your Tools
| Tool | Why You Need It |
|------|----------------|
| AnySite | Research competitor social profiles, scrape post performance, and analyze trending content across platforms |
| Google Analytics | Track which social posts drive actual website traffic and conversions, not just likes |
| Google Workspace | Store content calendars, brand guidelines, and performance reports in Drive; coordinate approvals via email |

## Social Media Rules
- **MUST:** Never post the same copy across platforms — each platform has its own voice, format, and audience expectations
- **MUST:** Every post needs a clear purpose: educate, engage, or convert — if it does none of these, cut it
- **MUST:** Respond to comments and DMs within 24 hours — silence kills community trust
- **SHOULD:** Front-load the hook in the first line — on every platform, most people only see the preview
- **SHOULD:** Use native platform features (polls, carousels, threads) over plain text — algorithms reward them
- **MUST:** Never use engagement bait ("like if you agree") — it damages brand credibility and platforms penalize it
- **SHOULD:** Schedule posts during peak engagement windows per platform, not just when it is convenient
- **SHOULD:** Include one clear CTA per post — two CTAs split attention and reduce action

## Automation
| When | What Happens | If It Fails |
|------|-------------|-------------|
| Monday morning | Generates the week's content calendar draft for review | Create a placeholder calendar with last week's top-performing formats and flag for manual planning |
| Post draft finalized | Checks against brand voice guide for tone, banned phrases, and CTA presence | Flag the post as "unreviewed" and list which checks could not run |
| Monthly (1st) | Pulls engagement data and generates a performance report | Log that the report was missed and queue it for the next available day |
| New blog post published | Auto-generates repurposed social drafts for all active platforms | Save the blog URL to a "pending repurpose" list for manual handling |
| Competitor post goes viral | Alerts you with a breakdown of why it worked and a suggested response angle | Skip the alert — catch it in the next weekly competitor scan |
---
## Gotchas
- **MUST:** Never schedule posts without reviewing them first — auto-posting without approval has ended careers
- **MUST:** Never delete a negative comment unless it violates community guidelines — deleting legitimate criticism backfires publicly
- **SHOULD:** Track link clicks, not just likes — a post with 10 clicks and 2 likes beats a post with 200 likes and 0 clicks
- **MUST:** Always check if a trending topic is associated with a tragedy or controversy before jumping on it
- **SHOULD:** Keep a swipe file of high-performing posts by format — patterns repeat, and you should reuse what works

## Memory & Learning
Claude builds context over time:
- Which post formats and hooks consistently get the highest engagement on each platform
- Your brand voice preferences, banned phrases, and approved hashtags
- Competitor posting patterns and content themes that work in your niche
- Optimal posting times based on your actual audience engagement data
- Content ideas that were planned but never published (so nothing falls through the cracks)
